Basketball games raise $2,500 for American Heart Association
The HCHS Shoot Out basketball games raised awareness and donations for the American Heart Association.

market director, AHA.
The Hazelwood Central High School Shoot-Out, a series of four games between public and private high schools, supported the American Heart Association’s efforts to promote heart health and awareness. The Red Out-themed game raised a total of $2,500 from the participating teams, entry fees and concession sales. Teams included Parkway South, DeSmet Jesuit, Vianney, Washington, Maplewood Richmond Heights, Whitfield, HCHS and Cardinal Ritter.

During half-time of the final game between HCHS and Cardinal Ritter, HSD Superintendent Dr. Steve Price presented a ceremonial check in the amount of $2,250 to Julie Hederman, youth market director, AHA. More money was collected after the game, contributing to the final amount. The check presentation included Dr. Cheryol Mitchell, HCHS principal; John Pukala, HCHS activities director, Crystal Nelson, HSD lead nurse, and the players and coaches from HCHS and Cardinal Ritter.

The next HSD Red Out game is February 10 at Hazelwood West High School at 6:30 p.m. featuring the varsity girls’ versus Pattonville High School. Game tickets are $4. The school will host T-shirt sales for heart awareness and $1 of each ticket will be contributed to an AHA fund.
